AstroSol

Precise solar data. Works offline.

Support & Help

Tip: on first run, give the app a few seconds online to cache the offline gazetteer (nearest city & time-zone hints). After that, most features work entirely offline.

What’s new (1.0.1)

  • Fix: corrected a case where the Sun’s azimuth could drift near true solar noon (DST handling).
  • New: shows Geometric (no refraction) and Apparent elevation; details added to the i page.
  • Minor UI polish and copy-to-clipboard / localization consistency.

Quick FAQ

  • Why do I see “Offline” at the top? That badge reflects a live reachability check to a public site. Calculations still work offline.
  • Nearest city/time-zone offline? Yes. A compact GeoNames gazetteer bundled in the app provides approximate city & time-zone hints when offline.
  • Copy results? Tap the copy buttons on the main screen or results cards to place values on the pasteboard (only on your explicit action).
  • Geometric vs. Apparent elevation? Geometric ignores refraction; Apparent includes standard refraction used for sunrise/sunset conventions.

Troubleshooting

  • Verify the input mode (Decimal vs. DMS) matches your entry.
  • If the device can’t fetch a time zone, use Best Guess (longitude-based) or try again later when online.
  • Indoors GPS can be stale. If location seems off, step outside or choose a manual location.

Credits

  • Solar math: Meeus-style; NOAA rounding conventions.
  • Offline cities: data © GeoNames.
  • Time-zone & reverse-geocode: Apple iOS frameworks.
